Duane Joseph Overfield , 53, of Topeka, passed away March 31, 2016. He was born February 1, 1963 at Fall City, Nebraska to Donald Jean and Josephine (Moorehead) Overfield. He attended school in Fall City and later attended Hiawatha High School. He completed his GED in 1981.
He married Linda Torrez at Trinity United Methodist Church in Hiawatha, Kansas on May 8, 1981. Duane was a man of strength, the glue to his family. Many people gravitated to him because he was a down to earth and generous man. He was fun loving and always doing or saying things to make people laugh. He was a hardworking man who considered the people he worked with as family.
He worked for the City of Topeka, Water Department for 31 years. Duane was the Director of Meter Services. While living in Hiawatha, he worked for Wilde Tools and Flair Fold. Duane enjoyed playing pool, barbecuing, and playing with his grandkids.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; his children: Lauri Lemen (Tom), Tammy Torrez, and Brandi Duchesneau (Brad); 17 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and his siblings: Dale Overfield, Linda Garrett (James), Rose Hopkins (Ron), David Overfield (Mary) and Keith Overfield. Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Jean Overfield and Josephine Beckner and his baby brother Richard "Dickey".
His funeral service will be held Thursday, April 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Fellowship Bible Church, 6800 SW 10th Street, Topeka, Kansas. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service.
