Dudley Webster Havens, 74, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2022.
He was born November 21, 1948, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Robert Franklin and Esther Blanche (Webster) Havens.
Dudley graduated from Topeka High School in 1966. He furthered his education graduating with a Master's Degree from Baker University.
Dudley served in the 190th KS National Guard Air Refueling 16 years.
He was employed by the State of Kansas as an Auditor. He was also a police officer with the Topeka Police Department, worked for the Topeka Metro and held multiple other positions in Topeka. During his retirement, he worked with Advance Auto and enjoyed driving the Mini Train in Gage Park.
Mr. Havens was a member of Town and Country Christian Church and Fellowship Bible Church, of Topeka. He also was a member of the Boy Scouts of America (Jayhawk Area Council), Dzie-Hauk Tonga Lodge - Order of the Arrow, Union President for Amalgamated Transit #1360 and Up with People.
Dudley married Connie Bernhardt on April 7, 1974 in Topeka, Kansas at Hope Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Havens of Topeka; sons, Charles "Chaz" (Crystal) Havens and Robert (Katie Long) Havens both of Topeka; grandchildren, Robert "Austin" Havens, Joseph "Joe" Havens, Annabelle "Annie" Havens, Jameson Havens and Abel Havens.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dudley enjoyed photography, painting landscapes using acrylics and was a longtime volunteer for the Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon and Boy Scouts of America. Most of all Dudley had a passion for being a mentor and helping many youth. He especially loved spending time with his family and participating in all of his children's activities.
Honoring Dudley's request, cremation is planned. A Celebration of Dudley's Life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Town and Country Christian Church, 4925 SW 29th St., Topeka, Kansas 66614. Those in attendance are encouraged to wear their favorite sports team regalia or scout uniform in honor of Dudley.
Inurnment of Dudley's cremated remains will take place sometime in the spring of 2023 at Topeka Cemetery.
