Dwaine Steeples Evans, 77, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka after a lengthy illness.
Dwaine was born March 30, 1937 in Bartlesville, OK to Pearl Steeples and Donald Evans. He was raised in Oklahoma by his mother and stepfather Curtis Ryan. His parents preceded him in death.
He graduated from Douglas High School in 1955 and later joined The United States Army Reserves until his Honorable Discharge in 1965.
Dwaine was married to Doris Hardeman 48 years before her death in 2006. They lived in Oklahoma until moving to Topeka in 1968.
Dwaine's greatest passion in life was cars. He worked for various auto body repair businesses after moving to Topeka, until he opened his own auto body repair shop, Superior Auto Body and Paint. He owned and operated this business for over 30 years.
Dwaine had lots of hobbies, from fishing, boating, and camping, to racing cars. He and his wife were also members of a motorcycle club The Wings of Topeka.
Survivors include: A daughter Donna Evans Traylor and son-in-law Alex (Tony) Traylor Sr., of Topeka, A son Dwaine Evans(Lenae) of Washington DC, granddaughters Charmaine and Shannon Huggins, of Topeka, A step-grandson Alex Traylor Jr., great-grandsons Jamari and Desean Fulton, of Topeka, Sisters and Brothers Judieth, Bren, Gwen, James, Larry, and Shirley all of Tulsa, OK and Monica, North Carolina.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. The family's celebration of Dwaine's life will continue after the services at the Lakewood Shelter House, 2301 SE Lakewood Dr., Topeka, KS 66605.
Dwaine will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel.
