E. Dale Mustoe, Jr. passed away on August 13, 2007 in Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka after a brief illness. Born to Ellsworth "Doc" Mustoe and Edna (nee Bryant) on March 8, 1918 in Norton, KS, Dale graduated in 1940 from Kansas State University where he met and married Virginia (nee Goodwin) on October 31, 1942 in Hiawatha, Kansas. Dale enlisted in the Navy and served as Lieutenant Commander on convoy duty during World War II. He served on active duty 5 years and reserve duty for 23 years. He became the assistant manager and later manager of Foster Farms near Rexford from 1945 to 1965. After traveling across Kansas in the capacity of secretary-treasurer for the Kansas Hereford Association, he became Rexford's Postmaster for a decade. He was a school board member for many years and was a faithful member of the Rexford Community Church, singing in the choir, serving on the church board and teaching Sunday School. He loved the Bible and looked forward to telling people about his relationship with God. He was a generous man, whose strong desire in his later years was to be of benefit to others. A member of Lions Clubs, he was secretary-treasurer of the Kansas Lions Sight Foundation in addition to holding other state and international offices, including District Governor. In retirement he served two terms in the Kansas Silver Haired Legislature where he was the very first elected speaker of the house. He also served for 19 years on the Northwest Kansas Area Agency on Aging.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Doc and Edna Mustoe and his infant sister. He is survived by a loving family, including his wife of 64 years, Virginia, daughters Martha (Glen) Shank, Barbara (Larry) Stetler, and Dalene (David) Strieff, grandchildren Lisa (Mick) Holt, Brad (Jenna) Shank, Betsy (Brett) Olson, John Morgan, Melody (David) Murray, James Morgan and David Stetler, nine great grandchildren and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 3:00pm, Sunday, August 19, 2007 at Wesley Hall at Aldersgate Village, Topeka. Private family burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
