Edith H. Newman, 80, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2015.
She was born May 26, 1934, in Zwittau, Czechoslovakia, the daughter of Robert and Alosia (Kohl) Brexl.
Edith attended Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Topeka.
Edith married William A. "Bill" Newman on November 16, 1955 in Germany. He preceded her in death on September 23, 1983. Survivors include three sons, Robert M. (Fiona) Newman, Lompoc, CA, Peter D. (Jo) Newman, Salina, KS and Edward "Ed" J. (Shelly) Newman, Topeka; and a grandson, Andrew J. Newman.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Robert Brexl.
A funeral ceremony will be 10 a.m., Thursday, May 21, 2015 at the Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd., Topeka. Edith will lie in state after 3 pm, Wednesday, at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Private family interment will be at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS.
