Edith O. Horne, 82, Topeka, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007 at Midland Hospice House.
She was born Jan. 23, 1925 in Columbia, South Carolina, the daughter of Edgar R. and Catharine Sadie Stephen Owens, and graduated from Columbia High School in 1943.
Mrs. Horne served as the Executive Secretary to the Adjudant General of the South Carolina National Guard for over 20 years before retiring. She had lived in Topeka since 2003.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, SC and Palmetto Presbyterian Church, Palmetto, FL.
She married Robert W. Horne, Sr. on Aug. 30, 1952 in Columbia, SC. He survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Katharine M. Miller and husband, Virgil of Topeka; a step-son, R. Daniel Horne and wife, Dottie of Vero Beach, FL; a son, R. Woot Horne, Jr. and wife, Beatrix of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren, Kevin Miller and Michael Miller both of Topeka, Douglas Horne and wife, Valerie of South Riding, VA, Stephen Horne and wife, Jennnifer of Arlington, VA, Jennnifer Horne, Robert W. Horne III, Susanna Tanguay and husband, Ben all of Baltimore, MD, and Kelly Horne in North Carolina; great grandchildren, David, Eric, Blake, Justin, Matthew, and Samantha Miller, all of Topeka, Camden Tanguay of Baltimore, MD.
Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 at Gage Park Baptist Church, Topeka.
Private inurnment will be in First Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Columbia, SC.
