"Edna" Barbara Jean Redmon, 85, of Topeka, went home to be with the Lord Monday, April 11, 2011 at her home. She was born November 13, 1925 in Topeka, the daughter of William H. and Edna I. Banks Newman. She graduated from Seaman High School and attended Washburn University.
Barbara married Nathaniel Redmon, Sr. on September 15, 1945 in Topeka. Two children were born from this union, Paul Albert and Nathaniel Redmon Jr.
Barbara was employed by Pelletier's Department Store for 12 years and later went to work for Prudential Insurance Company for 23 years before retiring on January 22, 1990. She was a long standing member of Lane Chapel CME and Fellowship of Faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, five sisters and four brothers. Survivors include her brother, Charles Banks Newman of California, daughter-in-law, Brenda Redmon, Topeka, grandchildren, Derek, Anthony and Angela, Topeka, Denice, Texas, 19 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild expected, and a host of family and friends.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Lane Chapel CME Church, 1200 S.W. Lane St. Burial will follow in Mount Auburn Cemetery. Barbara will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 S.E. Minnesota Ave.
