Edna H. Ferguson

Edna H. Ferguson, 90, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2006 at a Topeka hospital. She was born on October 17, 1915 in Trenton, NJ, the daughter of Joseph Benjamin and Katherine May Reading Hann. She graduated from Rochester Grade School, Seaman Rural High School in 1933, Clark Secretarial School and obtained a B.A. in English from Washburn University in 1991. Edna attended Red Cross National Aquatic Schools in Colorado, Iowa, Wisconsin and New York. She was certified as an instructor in First Aid and Water Safety. She served a term as Chairman of the Water Safety Committee for the Shawnee County Chapter of the Red Cross. Edna worked for nineteen years in the offices of WIBW Radio before resigning as Assistant to the General Manager in September of 1954. She later worked as a secretary in architectural and real estate development firms and as a legal secretary. Edna was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Breakfast Club Class of the church, the YWCA, Topeka Branch of the AAUW, the Kansas Authors Club, the Washburn Alumni Association, Friends of KTWU, Friends of the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library and the Northeast Kansas Parkinson's Association. Edna married Robert Norman Ferguson on May 14, 1950 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1998. Survivors include one daughter, Winona Ferguson Estes and husband, George of Northfield, MN and one grandson, Tokala Estes. No services are scheduled. Private interment will take place in Topeka Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 1653, Topeka, KS 66601. Newcomer Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
