Edward B. Brown (W0EPV)
Edward B. Brown, 97, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at McCrite Plaza in Topeka, Kansas. Edward was born on January 3, 1912 in Lawrence, KS, the son of Edward E. and Anna Margaret (Ray) Brown. Edward worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 35 years, retiring in 1972. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. He served in the United States Naval Reserve during WWII. He held an Extra Class license as a ham radio operator with the Federal Communications Commission. He was married to Lucile Thompson who preceded him in death in 1966. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Mark Saxon Brown in 2002. He is survived by his son, Edward T. (Bernice) of Topeka, KS; his granddaughter, Barbara (Chad) Halepeska and great-grandchildren, Brianna and Kiefer, also of Topeka; and his sister, Margaret E. (Howard) Tolley of Newville, PA. He is also survived by two step-grandsons, Jason (Mary) Flaherty of Austin, TX, and Jared Flaherty of Kansas City, Missouri, and three step-great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. Graveside inurnment services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Topeka Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Edward's honor to the American Radio Relay League, 225 Main St., Newington, CT 06111, or Heart of America Hospice, 3715 SW 29th St.,Suite 20, Topeka, KS 66614.
