Edward Raymond Bunker

Edward Raymond Bunker, 87, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019.

Ed was born January 11, 1932, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the son of Harry Bunker and Rosina Kleinschmidt.

Ed graduated from McPherson High School where he met his wife Joan Scott. Ed and Joan married in Hebron, Nebraska on July 13, 1951.

Ed graduated from the U.S. Naval Training Center Co 909 in Great Lakes, Illinois in 1951. He enlisted in the Naval Reserve and was called to active duty in 1954 aboard the USS Kenneth Bailey DDR713. He sailed the seas to the exotic ports of Algiers, France, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Greece and Monte Carlo. Ed was discharged from the Navy in 1955.

Ed began his career with Payless Shoes in Salina, Kansas, where he became the manager of the third Payless Shoe store in the USA. In 1962, Ed was promoted to district manager of several new stores in Topeka, Rapid City, Cheyenne, Colorado Springs, Pueblo and Bartlesville. Eventually, he became Vice President of store planning and construction of Volume Shoe. Upon retirement in 1987, Ed and Joan travelled extensively in the United States, playing golf and enjoyed getting together with family and friends.

Survivors include daughter Lorie Wilson, son Scott Bunker (wife Maggie), grandchildren Jared Norgaard-Pedersen (wife Stacy), Jennifer Smith (husband Ryan), Matthew Wilson (wife Jessica), Nicole Wilson, Kaitlyn Bunker, Breanna Frederick. Great grandchildren Hayden and Brock Norgaard-Pedersen, Cooper and Layne Smith, Isabella, Sophia, William and Henry Wilson, Alexander and Abel Frederick. Son-in-law Steve Norgaard-Pedersen, sister-in-law Marcia Chinberg (husband Dan) and Rufus (Ruffie Ruff) Bunker (beloved buddy).

Ed was preceded in death by his wife Joan Bunker, brother Harry Bunker, daughter Debra Norgaard-Pedersen and son-in-law Eldon Wilson Jr.

The family wishes to express gratitude to the staff of Home Instead, Stormont-Vail Palliative Care, Midland Hospice House and Lexington Park.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 26, 2019 at Dove Cremations & Funerals, Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka with a reception to follow. Interment with military honors will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka.
