Edward Leon Carter, 52, of Topeka, passed away, Sunday, September 17, 2006.
He was born March 28, 1954 in Darlington, SC the son of Wash and Ruth Bonaparte Carter.
Edward married Schelline Young May 27, 1994 in Topeka, She survives. Other survivors include, three sons, Isaiah Carter and Nazaiah Carter both of the home; Edward Carter, Jr., Kansas City; two daughters, Melika Walker, Oriuma Carter, Topeka, his mother, Ruth Murphy, MD; four brothers, Andre Murphy, GA; Terrence Murphy, MD; Billy Carter and Chris Carter both of NY; three sisters, Anita Lewis, Anette Murphy, Marcia Omondi, all of Maryland; and two grandchildren, Jamaikah and Jamaruia Phillips both of Topeka. Edward was preceded in death by his father and a brother Joey Carter.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 22, 2006 at the True Vine Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Mr. Carter will lie in state after 4:00 p.m. Thursday at the Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday.
