Edward Emmett Hedges

Edward Emmett Hedges, 83, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2017. He was born June 28, 1934 in Offerle, Kansas, the son of Benjamin and Hazel (Schenck) Hedges. He was a 1952 graduate of Offerle High School. He also graduated from Garden City Junior College, Pittsburg State Teachers College and the University of Kansas.

Emmett was a Kansas public school educator having taught in Lakin, Great Bend, Dodge City and Kanopolis. He was an elementary principal in Valley Falls and Syracuse, and a superintendent at Northern Valley in Almena and Long Island, Uniontown and Burrton. His favorite activities included fishing, working in the yard, and spending time with his family. He was also a member of the Lions Club and the Masonic Lodge.

Emmett married Margaret Ellen Taylor on December 6, 1955 in Garden City, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include his son, Jon (Tricia) Hedges; daughters: Dawn (Dave Lehman), Merri (Dan Archibald), and Marcia (Tom Smith); brother, Sam; 5 grandchildren: Ted, Ellen, Anna, Eduardo, and Braulio; 4 great-grandchildren: Riley, Addison, Parker and Nora. He was preceded in death by 7 sisters and 5 brothers.

A memorial gathering will be announced at a later date.
