Edward Moody, 92, passed away May 9, 2016, at Homestead Assisted Living, surrounded by family and holding the hand of his beloved wife of 66 years. He was born in Topeka to Halford and Zattie (Carp) Moody. Edward started his education at Rice Elementary just east of Topeka. The family moved to a farm 20 miles east of Manhattan, where he graduated from the 8th grade, the same one-room school as had his father. In 1937, the family moved to rural Wichita, where Edward graduated from Wichita High School East. Edward served as a Telephone Repeaterman in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during WWII from April 1943 to October 1945. Campaigns included Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Germany.
Edward married Rogene Newcom in Wichita, Kansas, in 1949. After graduating from Kansas State University, he went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone, retiring in 1984, as District Traffic Superintendent. Through his life, Edward contributed to his community, volunteering for many organizations including his church, Civitan, TARC, Red Cross, Topeka Youth Project, United Way and Topeka Civic Theatre.
Edward was preceded in death by both his parents and an infant granddaughter, Katie Silsby. He is survived by his wife, Rogene; three daughters, Janine (David Metzenthin) Silsby, Hoyt, Christine (Steve Spyres) Moody, Hoyt, and Erin (Greg Robinson) Moody, Albuquerque; seven grandchildren, Christopher (Jessica Brater) Silsby, Michael Silsby, Sam Spyres, Sydney Spyres, Kaycie Robinson, Hannah Robinson, and Caleb Robinson; one great-grandson, Ezekiel Silsby; and his sister, Elizabeth (John) Barrett, Lafayette, Indiana.
Visitation with the family will be Saturday, May 21 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with a Celebration of Ed's Life immediately following at West Side Baptist Church, 4th & Fillmore, Topeka.
