Edwin Eugene Long

Edwin Eugene Long, 56, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2016.
He was born February 26, 1960 in Lawrence, Kansas, the son of Leroy and Shirley (Colbert) Long. Edwin was a graduate of Mission Valley High School. After graduation he entered the U.S. Navy and served for 21 years until retiring in 2005. He was later employed by Home Depot in Topeka.
Edwin married Cindy Sue Merritt in 1978. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Edwin Eugene Long II, Norfolk, VA and Jerrit Lynn Long, Lyndon, KS; his father, Leroy Long; sister, Pamela Garrison; and brother, Chad Mercer. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Mercer.
Edwin enjoyed playing darts and working on engines.
Edwin was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 16th at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service, 4020 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, KS. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stormont-Vail Cancer Center, 1414 SW 8th Ave. Topeka, KS 66606.
