Eileen J. Liesmann

Eileen J. Liesmann, 95, Topeka, was called to her heavenly home on June 11, 2020 at McCrite Assisted Living.
She was born December 22, 1924 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Charles and Viola (Vanderwal) Johnston.
Eileen married George Liesmann on April 27, 1946. Her husband of 74 years survives. Other survivors include their children, George (Nancy) Liesmann, Jr., Jill (Paul) Glinka, and Rick Liesmann; 7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Eileen was a daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother and Granny. She loved her grandparents, parents and sister, Velna. She had a happy childhood and developed a strong Christian faith.
World War II had a profound impact on her, as it did with most of her generation. These memories from her late teenage and early 20's were strong in her later life. Her fiancé, George, went to war in the Army Air Corps. After work each day, Eileen wrapped bandages to be used for "the guys", and met too many girls whose "guys" did not come home.
When George returned from war, they married. George was the love of her life. Eileen lived to be his helpmate. She supported George in his businesses and created a warm home for him and their 3 children, full of her kindness, love and faith. Even her dear dogs, Tippy and Buffy felt her caring, patient and loving ways.
Eileen volunteered outside the home for many years in areas such as Cancer Drive Chairman, Cub Scout Den mother, School room mother, children's activities, and hospital volunteer. During these years, they lived in Kirkwood, MO, Greenfield, WI and Topeka, KS.
She blessed her family with gourmet meals every day. There wasn't a salad mom didn't create. Over the years she entertained and provided friends and family with wonderful times and amazing food. Her recipes live on!
When her 3 children married and had children, she became Granny. Cara, Brian, Keith, Brad, Robin, Tim and Heidi had the best Granny ever. From days swimming, sleep overs, every holiday and family event, Granny planned and all had a marvelous time and great food.
Eileen and George enjoyed traveling to countries all around the world. When they were 80, they moved to Hot Springs Village, AR, before returning to Topeka.
Granny went on to have 16 great-grandchildren who were also blessed with opportunities to know her, and she was blessed to have their presence in her life.
She is missed by all, but is now in her long awaited presence of the Lord.
Private graveside services for the family were held at Mount Hope Cemetery. A Celebration of her life and love of the Lord will be held at a later date.
