Eldon L. "Flip" Wilson, Jr., 60, Topeka, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2008.
Eldon was born December 23, 1947 in Hopkins, MO, the son of Eldon L. and Audra J. (Fifer) Wilson. He graduated from Harveyville High School in Harveyville, and attended Emporia State University.
Eldon served on the Topeka Police Department for 35 years, retiring in 2004. He held the rank of Detective Sergeant and served in the Tactical Squad, Juvenile Division, Crimes Against Persons and ended his career in the Scientific Investigative Unit. Eldon was the Police Officer of the Year in 2000. After retirement he worked as a Security Officer at Blue Cross & Blue Shield, and served in that capacity until his death.
He was a member of the F.O.P., the N.R.A., and Capital City Gun Club.
Eldon married Lorie G. Bunker on March 27, 1976 in Topeka. She survives of the home. Other survivors include daughter, Deborah E. Wilson, Fort Lauderdale, FL; son, Matthew E. Wilson and wife Jessica, Topeka; daughter, Nicole J. Wilson, Topeka; parents, Eldon and Audra Wilson, Harveyville; brother, Gary Wilson, Auburn; sisters, Elaine Halverson, Burlingame, Kathy Gosa, Carbondale, Jeannie McGinnis, Topeka; nieces, Jennifer, Laura, Melissa, Whitney, Kaitlyn, Breanna; and nephews, Eldon Ray, Adam, Austin, Jared, Gary Lee, Kevin, Toby, Shelby; and his faithful canine companion, Penny.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Central Congregational Church. Private family graveside services will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery. Eldon will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, after 11:00 a.m. on Friday and visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
