Eldon Leon Standish

Eldon (Stan) Leon Standish, 80, of Topeka, passed away at Midland Hospice, February 25, 2008, surrounded by his loving family.

Eldon was born May 29, 1927 in Holton, KS to Leonard and Violet (Booth) Standish. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Wanda Standish. Eldon was a 1947 graduate of Holton High School and Clarks Business School in Topeka. He served in the United States Army in Korea and was honorably discharged in September 1946. Eldon married Janice Kay Neff on June 8, 1958 at Highland Park United Methodist Church in Topeka. They had one daughter Barbara Kay.

Eldon retired from Sears after working 24yrs. During his lifetime, Eldon was involved with numerous organizations including Boy Scouts of America, American Legion, Sawdusters, American Association of Wood Turners, VFW, DAV, the Moose Lodge, and Masonic Golden Rule Lodge #90. Eldon received Emeritus Recognition from the Master Gardners of America in 2006. He was a Life Member of Optimist International where he served as Chapter President, Lt. Governor and Governor of Kansas Optimist. Eldon also contributed to the Topeka community by volunteering for the Topeka Police Department, Midland Hospice, Festival of Trees, and Relay for Life. Eldo was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church and was very involved with the church's Men's Group.

Eldon is survived by his wife, Janice; daughter, Barbara Moe of Grantville, KS; and grandchildren, Hilary and Ethan Moe.

Eldon touched so many lives with his humor, love, and loyalty to his community. He will be dearly missed by wonderful friends and family.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Highland Park United Methodist Church of Topeka, 2914 SE Michigan Ave. Public graveside inurnment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 SW 6th Ave., where Masonic services will be provided by Golden Rule Lodge #90 AF&AM and military honors will be present by Philip Billiard Post #1650 V.F.W. A visitation at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota, where family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. will occur on Friday, March 14, 2008. Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Highland Park United Methodist Church, 2914 S.E. Michigan Ave., Topeka, KS 66605 or Midland Hospice Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
