Eldon P. Pinick Sr.

June 5, 1936 — August 6, 2016

Eldon P. Pinick Sr., 80, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born June 5, 1936, the son of Edward and Ellen (Middleton) Pinick.

Eldon grew up in Onega, Kansas and attended Duluth Lutheran Church and was confirmed at the Wheaton Lutheran Church. After graduating from Onega High School in 1954, he moved to Topeka and went to work for the Alexander Brothers Baking Company, the Rainbo Bakery and the Sara Lee Baking Company. During this time period, Eldon was drafted and joined the Kansas National Guard. He retired from the bakery business after 50 years of service. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Topeka.

Eldon is survived by his wife, Margaret "Maggie" Pinick whom he was married to for 38 years. Other survivors include four children, E. Paul (Charlotte) Pinick Jr., of Emporia, Paula (Patrick) Newell of Chandler, Arizona, Stephanie Schermerhorn of Beaverton, Oregon, Jim Schermerhorn of Topeka, three grandchildren,Remington Pinick, Aaron Dehncke, Beth Drake and three great grandchildren, Caydence Dehncke, Braydon Dehncke and Avery Drake. Also surviving are his two siblings, Marcella (Carroll) Casey of Bella Vista, Arkansas and his twin brother, Edwin Pinick of Conroe, Texas.

Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Wallace Pinick, Lyle Pinick, his sister, Agnes Murdock and son, John Schermerhorn.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Hope Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Eldon will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association, 3625 SW 29th St., Ste. 102, Topeka, Kansas 66614, Grace Hospice, 3715 SW 29th St., Ste. 100, Topeka, Kansas 66614 or to Hope Lutheran Church, 2636 SE Minnesota Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66605.
