Eleanor L. Shields, 87, of Topeka, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011. She was born July 10, 1923 in Topeka, the daughter of William and Orpha Allen.
Eleanor was raised in Topeka, attended Topeka High School, and was a member of Lowman United Methodist Church. She was united in marriage to C.L. "Boots" Shields on November 5, 1949. He preceded her in death on April 11, 1955. To this union, two children were born; one daughter, Susan Vargas (Bryan), and one son, Scott Skinner (Michele). Other survivors include daughter, Debi Scrimsher (Danny); grandchildren, Joseph Little, Brandon Scrimsher, Megan Laha (Jared), Joshua Scrimsher (Lindsay Carlow), Erika Skinner (James Garcia); great-grandchildren, Evan Garcia, Avery, Parker, and Kinsley Laha, Easton Scrimsher, Hunter Peden, another great-granddaughter due in October, and a sister, Wilma Norwood.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 17 at the Penwell Gabel Cemetery. Eleanor will lie in state after 3 p.m., Thursday, June 16, and a visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the Dove Cremation Chapel, 4020 SW 6th Street, Topeka, KS 66606. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 2001 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63131, or Lowman U.M.C., 4000 SW Drury Lane, Topeka, KS 66604.
