Elgin John Saathoff

Elgin John Saathoff, 91, of Wakarusa, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2024 surrounded by his family.

He was born July 26, 1933, in Oketo, Kansas, the son of John and Ella (Kirchner) Saathoff. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from Kansas State University. He served in the United States Navy during 1955-1957. 

Elgin was employed by the CORPS of Engineers for many years, retiring in 1983.

Elgin married Kimberly Maria Nguyen on July 14, 1968 in Vietnam. She survives. Other survivors include daughters, Catherine (Nong) Pokphanh and Carolyne (Greg) Kewley, grandchildren, Easton, Annalise, Skyler, Sheldon, Seana, sister-in-law, Lois Saathoff and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Rosalie Dierking and brother, William Saathoff. 

Elgin enjoyed playing golf, reading, doing crossword puzzles, watching game shows, playing card games, and watching the hummingbirds outside his window.

Elgin’s wishes were for cremation. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 20, 2024 at Dove Cremations and Funerals Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, KS. Inurnment of the cremated remains will be at a later date.
