Elinore Mary Jones

December 29, 1931 — November 11, 2016

Elinore Mary "Elle" Jones passed away at her home in Topeka, Kansas on Friday November 11th 2016 at the age of 84 surrounded by her loving family.

Elle was born in Weskan, Kansas on December 29th 1931to Nels David and Blanceh (Hendee) Swanson. She was raised on a family farm and attended grade school in a one room schoolhouse. She graduated from Labette County Fine Arts High School in Altamont, Kansas on May 18th, 1950 with a diploma in Music. Elle then attended Labette Community College majoring in music with the intention to become a teacher. These plans however, were interrupted by the arrival of a certain young man named David.

Elinore and David were married on October 28th 1951. Together they operated a small farm near Parsons, Kansas. Their first house, a small bungalow, had no running water, and Elle remembers it as freezing in the winter and boiling in the summer; they called it "Skeeter Holler". As a young woman, Elle worked at the Army Ammunition plant in Parsons and with KNOP until the lines were closed. With the birth of her son, she became a full time homemaker. Later she attended Labette Community College in Parsons and became licensed as a Practical Nurse in 1978. Elle then enjoyed the rest of her career as a nurse caring for seniors in nursing homes in Parsons, Oswego and Altamont until her retirement in 1991.

Elle lost David to cancer in April of 1982 and raised her son alone. On her retirement, Elle moved to the Topeka area to be near her son and his family. She lived in Osage City for several years and enjoyed attending the Baptist Temple there. She attended South Knollwood Baptist church after moving to Topeka.

Elle enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading, using the computer and visiting with her friends and family. She loved photography and enjoyed taking pictures and making memories. As a girl, Elle studied music, and she played both the piano and the violin. She always enjoyed many types of music but especially loved the quiet beauty of classical music. Elinore was a quiet person with a kind heart and a generous nature and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Elle is survived by her son, Wade Jones of Topeka and her grandchildren, Wyatt, Austin and Kacie Jones. Elle is lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, and by the family and extended family members of her late husband.

Elle is predeceased by her husband, David L. Jones, infant daughter Denise Lynn, brother Ralph Swanson, sister, Beulah Hanthorne, and her parents.

A memorial service will be held at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service on Tuesday , November 22, 2016 at 4:00 pm with visitation held one hour prior to the service.
