Elizabeth A. Teeselink

Elizabeth Ann Teeselink passed away in her little log home on Wednesday, June 5, 2013. She was born on September 21, 1917 in Ashcreek, MN., the seventh of ten children of Henry and Anna (Geerdes) Schwartz. At age six her mother died and her father felt he could not take care of ten children so they were separated and went to live with relatives and neighbors. Elizabeth was adopted by a farm couple in Iowa and was then known as Elizabeth A. VanCorler. Although she only completed 8 grades of formal education she had a PHD in love and life.
She was married to Gerritt Teeselink in 1941; he passed away in 1966. They moved to Ogden, Utah while Gerritt was in the Army and Elizabeth was a 'Rosie the Rivetter' at a defense plant.
After V-Day they moved back to Iowa where their son, Scott was born. In 1947 they moved to Topeka where Gerritt was a fireman and Elizabeth worked for 15 years at the Great Plains Catalog Company. At 60 years of age she worked for the Family Service & Guidance Center retiring from there at 85 years old. Through her jobs and taking care of many children she was blessed with an extended family of numerous members that she maintained contact and love with up to her death.
In the mid 1970's she took on the ominous task of locating all her brothers and sisters that she had not seen or heard from since her mother's death. Then in 1978, her task completed and 54 years after her mother's funeral, they were reunited at a very happy reunion at her home with all but one of her siblings who had passed away. She outlived them all by 10 years. She was a wonderful woman, mother and friend who supported her country, community, family and friends with love, kindness and joy. She was especially grateful for the wonderful care of Midland Care Hospice and developed a great love for her Midland nurse Cindy Rubick.
She is survived by her son Scott (Stephanie Debra) Teeselink of Burlingame.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd., Topeka. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery in Topeka. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on the day of the service at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kansas 66606.
