Elizabeth "Joan" Habiger, 77, Topeka, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2008, at a local hospital.
Joan was born October 23, 1930 in Baldwin City, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Newland) Williams. She graduated from Ottawa High School in 1949.
Joan married Anthony Habiger on September 3, 1949 in Ottawa. He survives. Other survivors include daughters, Rebecca Magee, Sandra (Orville) Myers, Kathryn Habiger, all of Topeka; son, Anthony (Suzanne) Habiger, Kansas City, MO; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; sister, Mary K. Roy, Edmond, OK. Other survivors include Wanda Lou Rose, John and Lelia Habiger, Glen and Betty Dennis, 17 nieces, nephews and numerous close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and a sister.
She worked for Jostens for 22 years, retiring in 1992. Joan then volunteered for many years at Stormont Vail which was one example of her life long passion of always helping others.
She was an active member of North Topeka Baptist Church, Kansas Capital Quilter's Guild, Country Quilters, Kaw Valley Quilter's Guild and the Red Hat Society. She was also an accomplished artist who also loved fishing, camping, the outdoors and gardening.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at North Topeka Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Joan will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
