Elizabeth Carol (Dunning) Swearingen
Elizabeth C. Swearingen, 86, died July 16, 2007 at Midland Hospice in Topeka. She had previously made her home in Moran, then on a farm near Moran, and on a farm near LaHarpe KS.
Elizabeth (Betty) was born December 20, 1920, in Greybull, WY to Frank W. and Mary A. Dunning, who along with her brothers Frank and Benjamin and infant brother and infant sister, Thomas and Virginia, preceded her in death. She married Dwight W. Swearingen in 1944; he died in 1981. Betty attended Cottey College, Nevada, MO; Park College, Parkville, MO; and The University of Wyoming, Laramie, WY.
She is survived by her sister Kathleen Baimonte, Arvada, CO and two sons, Paul of Topeka and Kim, Okinawa, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and may nieces and nephews.
Betty was a prize-winning violinist who also played in the Iola Area Symphony. She retired from the Allen County SRS after working for the Iola Public Library, in the Iola superintendent's office, Allen County Hospital, Monarch Cement in Humboldt, and other professional firms including legal, medical, and accounting. After her retirement she served for several years as president of the Moran Library board.
A memorial service after cremation will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 29th and Minnesota, Topeka. A graveside service will follow on Tuesday, July 24 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kincaid Cemetery, Kincaid KS.
