Eloise Ann Price Tuttle, 95, of Topeka, KS, passed away on April 1, 2016. She was born on December 23, 1920, in Atlanta, Georgia, the youngest daughter of William Clyde and Elonora (Schmalz) Price.
Eloise lived in Atlanta until her grade school years, when the family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. She attended Western Hills High School and went on to attend Miami University in Oxford, Ohio for two years. While studying at Miami University, she met Richard Frederick Tuttle, who was in the U.S. Army. Eloise and Richard were married on March 22, 1941, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
As a military wife, Eloise moved frequently. She and her husband grew their family while living at Ft. Benning in Columbus, Georgia, Ft. Monmouth in New Jersey, Ft. Polk in Louisiana, on the U.S. Army base in Frankfurt, West Germany, and at Ft. Bragg in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Her husband, Richard, retired from the U.S. Army in 1967, and the family moved to the Atlanta suburb of College Park. Richard began his second career at the Georgia Veterans Administration offices in downtown Atlanta. Eloise lived in College Park, Georgia, until she and Richard were empty-nesters in the early 1980s. At this time they retired permanently to central Florida (Lady Lake and Ocala).
In addition to being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Eloise was a wonderful homemaker who was dedicated to her family. She was passionate about sewing and needlework. She loved to draw, paint, craft, cook, crochet and knit. Eloise loved to sing, and she sang in choral groups during her school years and later in church choirs. She also loved to swim, and performed water ballet during her college days. Eloise was gifted with a sharp mind and a sharp wit, and she enjoyed solving math problems in her head. Most of all she loved people. She loved to be with family or friends, surrounded by laughter and good conversation.
Eloise was always involved in the schools that her children attended. She participated and held office in the PTA for many years. She worked as a substitute teacher at Lakeshore High School in College Park, Georgia, while her youngest daughter was in school there. She was also a member of PEO. Eloise was a member of Southwest Christian Church in East Point, Georgia, for many years. Most recently she attended Town & Country Christian Church in Topeka, Kansas.
Eloise was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, her oldest son, John (Margaret), and her sisters Dorothy (Tom) Herbst and Margaret (Nick) Domis. Surviving are her daughters Debbie Tuttle of Palm Desert, CA, and Martha Hochuli (Sheldon) of Topeka, KS, and her son Bill Tuttle (Lanann) of Dacula, GA.
It was Eloise's decision to be cremated. Her family will celebrate her life privately at a later date.
