Elsa Marie "Larry" Cook, 81, Topeka, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004 at her home.
She was born March 1, 1923 in Weston, MO, the daughter of James Carlton and Nepha Bernice Lober Hardesty. She graduated from Providence Hospital School of Nursing in Kansas City, KS, received a BS in Nursing from St. Mary College, Leavenworth, and a MS in Adult Education from Kansas State University.
Mrs. Cook came to Topeka in 1958 and joined the Topeka Public Schools faculty in 1958, and taught in the Practical Nurse program for five years. In 19163, she became an instructor at Stormont-Vail School of Nursing. She taught nursing courses, was financial aid coordinator, and served as acting Director for two years. She retired in 1983 after serving 20 years with the school of nursing.
Since 1983, Mrs. Cook has been employed part time by Security Benefit Group as a medical telephone interviewer.
She was a member of West Side Baptist Church and the Sweet Adalines in both Topeka and Kansas City, Mo. She very much enjoyed music, playing cards, bingo, baseball games, and especially being with her family and friends.
She married Alvin W. Cook on Aug. 24, 1952. He died Aug. 28, 1988.
Survivors include two daughters, Chonette D. Gray of Shawnee, Dawn "Mickey" Seibert of Topeka, a son, Michael A. Cook of Topeka, 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10:00 am Thursday at Newcomer Family Funeral Home. Interment will be in West Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Cook will lie in state from noon to 4 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
