Emma Anna Todhunter, 92, passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at Brewster Place Health Care Center.
She was born in Elsmore, KS on September 5, 1915, the daughter of Fred and Clara Thompson.
Emma married Roy D. Todhunter in Topeka in 1941. He preceded her in death in 1975. Also, a son, "John" Todhunter preceded her in death in 1976. Two brothers, Dewey and Fred Thompson, also preceded her in death.
Emma was employed most of her life working for the State of Kansas. She retired from the Kansas Highway Patrol in 1983.
She was an active member of Shawnee Heights UMC and AARP, serving as President of a local chapter. She was also a Friendly Visitor volunteer.
She is survived by her daughter, Sue Miller; two grandchildren, Chad Miller of Topeka and Lisa Miller-Best and husband, Gregg Best of Shawnee, Kansas; two great granddaughters, Shyanne Best and Addison Miller. She is also survived by three sisters: Nina Lee Johnson of Elsmore, Kansas; Frances (Charles) Inselman of Blue Springs, Missouri; Gladys Brandt of Topeka and many nieces and nephews.
Emma will lie in state after 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 1st at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Emmanuel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shawnee Heights UMC, Brewster Place Health Care Center or Heart of America Hospice.
