Esther M. Malmstrom, 91, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2017.
She was born November 26, 1925 in Goodland, Kansas, the daughter of Edward F. and F. Estella (Sherwood) Schwendener. She was a graduate of Sherman Community High School and Brown Mackie College in Salina.
Esther worked as a medical assistant and secretary in Goodland, Kansas. She taught Pre-School at St. Andrew Episcopal Church in Madison, Wisconsin and most of her life as a homemaker.
She was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church, active in state and local chiropractic auxiliary.
Esther married Dr. Delno C. Malmstrom on February 12, 1966 in Salina, Kansas. He survives. Other survivors include her two children, David Wilcox, Olathe, KS and Patricia Wilcox, Topeka; four step-children, Carlene (Bill) Frost, Manhattan, KS, Steven (Donna) Malmstrom, Topeka, Debra Delgado, Bedford, TX and Lance Malmstrom, Topeka; eight grandchildren, Amy Hill, Megan Frost, Adam Frost, Michael, Matthew and Kelly Malmstrom and Jaime and Lee Malmstrom; 10 great-grandchildren; her brother, Donald Schwendener, Goodland, KS; her sister, Verda Simms, Easton, PA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a twin sister, Ruth Kreuzer; and a sister, Vida Moses.
Esther enjoyed life, family, playing bridge, collecting angels and traveling.
Cremation is planned. A graveside service at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Roselawn Cemetery, Salina, Kansas. A memorial service was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka.
