Esther J. (Sonstegard) Mettler, 86, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2022.
She was born March 10, 1936, in Georgeville, Minnesota, the daughter of Eugene and Clara (Lundgren) Sonstegard.
Esther graduated from Silver Lake High School. She worked in production for Frito-Lay for approximately 10 years before retiring.
Esther married James T. Bower in 1954 in Lawrence, Kansas. James preceded her in death in 1997. Esther remarried in 2007 to Willard L. Mettler in Clay Center, Nebraska. Willard preceded Esther in death in 2015.
Survivors include her six children, Steven (Barb) Bower of Augusta, KS, Gwen Blanchett of Topeka, James (Sheryl) Bower of Tecumseh, KS, Ronn (Angie) Bower of Topeka, Mike Bower of Topeka and Mark (Kelly) Bower of Kansas City, MO; 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and her beloved dog, Jake.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 8 siblings; a grandson and two husbands.
Esther enjoyed puzzles and antique shopping. She especially had an eye for interior design.
Honoring Esther's request cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Esther's Life will take place at a later date.
