Ethel Jean (Byall) Zamzow, 98, of Topeka, passed away Monday, January 13, 2014 Rolling Hills Health Center in Topeka.
She was born September 29, 1915, on a farm near Dodge City, Kansas, the daughter of David Wallace and Edith Eleanor (Turner) Byall. She was raised on a farm near Dodge City, later moved to a farm near Jetmore, Kansas. Her family then moved briefly to Arkansas City, and later to Sterling, Kansas. She was a graduate of Sterling High School and later graduated from Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas in 1937.
Mrs. Zamzow was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Topeka and Daughters of American Revolution in Greeley, CO.
Ethel married Reverend Elmer C. Zamzow on May 31, 1941 in Newton, Kansas. Together they pastored churches in Granger, WA, Spirit Lake, ID, West Richland, WA, Rawlings, WY and Greeley, CO. He preceded her in death on March 28, 2006.
Survivors include three sons, Tom (Rosalie) Zamzow, Topeka, Phil Zamzow, Maize, KS and Joe Zamzow, Beaverton, OR; a daughter, Ruth (Carroll) Cawyer, Stephenville, TX; 9 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Russell Byall and a sister, Eleanor Sanders.
The family and friends will gather from 12:30-1:30 p.m., Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka and go in procession to the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery for a graveside ceremony.
