Eugene Charles "Gene" Kasper, 85, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2018.
He was born May 21, 1932, in Appleton, Wisconsin, the son of Paul and Leola (Schwantes) Kasper. He was a graduate of Hudson High School. He received a BS and MS at Emporia State Teachers College, Emporia, KS and his Doctorate from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, ND.
Gene was a Professor in Education Administration and Director of the Bureau of Educational Measurements at Emporia State University. He was Dean of Students at Kansas State University and completed his educational career working with the Kansas Board of Regents. After retirement he was Director of Ecumenical Campus Ministry at the State Universities sponsored by the United Methodist Churches, the Presbyterian Churches, the Church of the Brethren and the United Church of Christ.
Survivors include three daughters, Jeannie (Jim) Browning, Topeka, Jerri (Mark) Smith, Kansas City, KS and Cindy (Mike) Yancey, Spring Hill, KS; Sean (April) McCoy, a friend who became like a son to Gene, Topeka; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul (Glenda) Kasper, Council Bluffs, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Honoring Gene's request, cremation is planned. A celebration of life gathering of family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until Noon, Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, Kansas.
