Eugene L. Sumner, 63, of Carbondale, formerly of Big Springs, Ks. died Sunday, May 2, 2004 at his residence. He was born on July 12, 1940 in Topeka, the son of George and Helen Bozarth Sumner. He graduated from Lecompton High School. He was employed as a television technician for General Appliance And TV Service. He previously owned and operated Avondale TV. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 420 AF&AM in Lecompton and the Twin Rivers Bass Club. He married Rena Schirills in 1964. They were divorced. He married Donna Humphrey Sorrels on September 12, 1985 in Big Springs, Ks. She survives. Other survivors include five sons; Doug Sumner of Lebo, Ks., Tommy Jack Dial of Pomona, Ks., Edward Hoffman of Washington, Tony Sorrels of Carbondale, Ks., and Lin Sorrels of Carbondale, three daughters; Christina Hill of Lyndon, Ks., Edna Anderson of Scranton, Ks., and Kitty Boydston of Carbondale, Ks., sixteen grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and three brothers; Maynard Sumner of San Antonio, Tx., James Sumner of Arizona and Larry Sumner of Perry, Ks., and one sister; Elizabeth Sumner of Perry, Ks. He was preceded in death by one brother; Raymond Sumner in 1997. Graveside service at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Maple Grove Cemetery, Lecompton. Burial will follow. Mr. Sumner will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Highland Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday evening.
