Eula May Parker Jones, 94, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at a local care center.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road.
Eula May was born March 6, 1913 in Post, Texas, the daughter of James H. and Eula Ernest Hollar Parker. "Parker" as she was known to her friends, and "Sis" or "Sissie" to her family, graduated from O'Donnell High School where she was a member of the volleyball team along with other activities.
In December of 1937, Parker earned her nursing degree. Parker was a Lt. in the U.S. Army Nursing Corps during WW II. After her military service she worked in the medical profession with Dr. Frank Duncan and then with Dr. Ernestine Smith in Amarillo, Texas.
On April 10, 1953, Parker married the love of her life, Joseph W. Jones in Amarillo. They moved to Topeka in 1963 when Joe was transferred with the Santa Fe Railroad. He preceeded her in death on September 12, 1975.
Parker belonged to several bridge clubs and played several days a week. She attended Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
She was preceeded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters: Juanita Gruner and Thelma Marsh, and a nephew: Jim Marsh.
"Aunt Sissie" is survived by her nieces and nephew, all of whom live in Texas: Sherie and Tom Sargent; Cindy Gruner; Kima and Jim Light; Karen Marsh; and Bob and Phyllis Gruner; two great nieces, six great nephews, two great-great nephews and two great-great nieces; and by family members Tom and Joan Jones, and Margaret and Karl Hogan.
