Evelyn May "Nanny" Damron, 90, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2014. She was born February 13, 1924 in Parsons, KS, the daughter of James Joseph and Alta M. Setters Yandell.
Evelyn had resided in Topeka since 1945 and graduated from Topeka High School. She was employed by Kansas Power & Light Company where she retired in 1981. She was a member of Topeka Bible Church and was a Camp Fire Girls leader for 11 years.
Evelyn married Walter Raymond Decker Jr. in Erie, KS in 1940. They later divorced in 1971. She married Billie Gene Damron in 1981 in Topeka. He preceded her in death in 2001. She was also preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
Survivors include children, Crystal R. Kennedy of Berryton, KS, Walter R. Decker III of Hayes, KS, Ted A. Decker of Perry, KS, Jan L. McDaniel of Newport News, VA, Lana Dorsett of Topeka, 15 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter and a brother, Lloyd Yandell of California.
Graveside inurnment services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Rochester Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Topeka Rescue Mission, 600 N. Kansas Ave., Topeka, KS 66608. The family also requests that no food items be sent to them as an expression of sympathy. Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel is assisting the family.
