Evelyn L. (Frese) Milligan, 91 of Topeka passed away on Monday, July 20, 2009 at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center. She was born on June 29, 1918 in Hoyt, Kansas to Henry G. and Lena P. (Kaser) Frese.
Evelyn attended County Line Grade School near the Shawnee-Jackson county line. She graduated from Hoyt High School and Christ Hospital (Stormont-Vail) Nursing School. She was a nurse in various hospitals, Beloit Community Hospital from 1938-1940, University of Minnesota from 1940-1941, Junction City Hospital from 1941-1946, Dr. R.V. Stapp from 1946-1949 before taking a nursing supervisor for the Bendix (now Allied Signal) corporation in 1949 where she worked until retirement in 1977. On September 5, 1949 she married George F. Milligan in Kansas City, MO. He preceded her in death on June 27, 1973. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kansas City, MO.
Evelyn is survived by nieces and nephews, Elmer W. Hubener, Carl Hubener and Ernest Hubener, Marie Yoder, Luanna Daane, Albert Frese and Jules Frese and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Alice Hubener and brother Clarence Frese.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2009 at Mount Hope Chapel. Entombment will follow. She will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 23 at the Dove Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to KTWU Channel 11 Public Television, 1700 College, Topeka, KS 66621.
