Florence P. Lee, 91, Topeka, passed away Friday, December 18, 2015 at a local care center.
Florence was born May 18, 1924 in Topeka, the daughter of Ray and Fay (Anderson) Lewis. She attended Topeka Public Schools and Washburn University.
She was a Licensed Mental Health Technician, working for The Topeka State Hospital, Menninger's and the Youth Center of Topeka, retiring in 1986.
She was a member of Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Mother board and was a member of the Nannie Burrough Circle. She previously attended Second Baptist Church where she was a Deaconess for 30 years, 16 of those she served as Chairman. She was on the Mission board and taught Sunday school.
Florence married Willie Richard James on October 2, 1943. This marriage was dissolved in 1946. She married Irving Delmar Curtis, Sr. on May 22, 1951. He died February 19, 1966. She married William Thomas Lee on September 7, 1966. He died December 13, 1994. Survivors include her children, Larry James, Irving Curtis, Jr., Janice Rodriguez, all of Topeka; 21 Grandchildren; 64 Great-Grandchildren; 10 Great-Great-Grandchildren; and brothers, Donald and Raymond (Delores) Lewis, both of Topeka. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Gwendolyn James York; and an infant sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 28, 2015 at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 610 SE Lime. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road.
