Background: She grew up on a farm and attended country school. She graduated from Glen Elder High School in
1929 and attended Kansas Wesleyan College. She taught school for 4 years in the one room schools in the Glen
Elder area.
She was employed by the C.E. Vallette Mercantile store in Glen Elder which she and her husband later purchased
in 1936 and operated until 1942. After her husband enlisted in the Navy she and their children moved to Topeka.
She was employed by Mace Jewelry. Later, she and the children moved to join her husband at the Banana River
Naval Base in Florida. After his discharge they returned to Topeka in December 1945 to make their home.
Mrs. Neff operated the Neff Neighborhood Grocery on Hudson Street in the Highland Park area from 1948 to
1952. She also served as a host for Menninger Family Care and was employed in food service by USD 501.
She was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church since June 1946. She was active in the Ruth Circle
of Womens Society of Christian Service for many years. She taught intermediate Sunday School classes and sang
in the Wesley Choir.
Relatives: Married to: Everett R. Neff, June 4, 1933 at the home of her parents.
He died October 30, 1997.
