Floyd Dean Kelly

Floyd Dean "Mutt" Kelly, 81, Auburn, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2015.

He was born March 11, 1934, in Auburn, Kansas, the son of John "Jack" and Emma (Cregut) Kelly. He graduated from Auburn High School and earned a Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering from the University of Kansas. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving during the Korean War.

Floyd worked as an electrical engineer for Bendix and Hughes Aircraft Industry prior to working for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, where he retired in 1997.

He was a member of Rubber Workers Union Local 307, IBEW Local 304 and past member of First Baptist Church.

In 1960 he married Mary Sue Marple. They later divorced. On July 28, 1988, he married Karen (Lewis) Taylor in Las Vegas, NV. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Susan Kelly Hocker (Chester), Overland Park; Jack Kelly (Carrie), Topeka and Dr. James Kelly, Godfrey, IL; step-sons, Mark Taylor, Overland Park; Scott Taylor (Stephanie Spilker), Katy, TX and Keith Taylor, Spring Hill, KS; siblings, Lester Kelly, Fort Worth, TX; Evelyn Rush (Allen), Topeka; Leonard Kelly (Norma), Auburn; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and 13 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two siblings, Robert "Bob" Kelly and Echo Carter.

Floyd and Karen were avid campers and loved traveling. He enjoyed boating, water skiing, motorcycles, gardening, hunting and fishing. They also enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and the casinos. They loved spending time with their grandchildren and Floyd loved to tinker, making remote control model airplanes, always inventing something and there was never anything he couldn't fix.

Visitation will begin at 10 am on Thursday, August 6 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, with services to follow at 11 am. Burial with military honors will follow at Auburn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Auburn Community Center, in care of the funeral home, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, KS 66610.
