Floyd E. Wells

Floyd E. Wells 80 of Topeka went to heaven October 15th, 2016 surrounded by his family. Floyd was born in Ponca City, OK on July 18th 1936 to Barton Curtis and Hyacinth Marcella Wells. He had four older siblings, Hattie Lee Bussey, Curtis Edgar, Barton Clyde and John Laverne. Johnny is the only one still living and he and Floyd loved to talk on the phone for hours.

Floyd married Betty Ann Pierce on May 7th 1956 and was a loving, faithful husband for over 60 years. At the age of 17 Floyd met the love of his life at his church youth group in Oklahoma City, OK. He joined the Army Screaming Eagles, 101st Airborne and came home on leave determined to get married and take Betty back to Ft. Campbell, KY with him which he did. Originally Floyd wanted to elope the day he got back to OK City on leave. However each of their mothers persuaded Floyd to wait a few days as they quickly arranged a wedding at a local church. The newlyweds rented a little apartment and they lived there for a few weeks while Betty finished up her senior year of high school! The family moved to Topeka, KS in 1965 where Floyd worked as the meat manager at Sutton's. When Sutton's closed he finished his career at J.M. Bauersfield's.

He was so proud of his children; Michael (Candi) Wells, Shelly (Jimmy) Hook, Dona Hook and Don (Alice) Wells and his 16 wonderful "Grands"; Michelle (Jason) Root, Donnie (Edna) Wells, Jessie (Skee) Pickrell, Josh Wells, Sammy Hook, Stacey Hook, Chad (Skyler) Watson, Brad (Courtney) Wells, Kay-Cee Wells, Todd Watson, Ryan Wells and his 12 "Greats" who brought so much joy to his life; Jordon and Carson, Ezekiel and Clarence, Lily and Abby, Archie, Parker and Ryan, Clayton & Gavin and Jaxson.

Floyd loved life and lived it to the fullest every day. Square dancing, boating, water skiing, OU Sooners and riding his Harley (before he sold it at age 79) were all activities he enjoyed throughout life and most of all his "Grands" and "Greats". Some of his favorite times were spent eating breakfast with his sons, friends, grandsons and great-grandsons. Whenever Floyd had little great-grands over to the house he made special heart shaped pancakes that they loved. He also loved traveling with his wife, daughters and sons (separately) to have them all for himself!

Floyd was an avid history buff, with a special interest in Military History due in part to his military service. He was proud to have been in the 101st Airborne Division Screaming Eagles. Under direction of President Eisenhower as part of his division, Floyd was airlifted into Little Rock Arkansas in 1957 and provided an armed escort to the "Little Rock Nine" to ensure their safe passage into Little Rock High School.

The number one thing he loved the very most was his family.

A celebration of life will be Saturday October 22nd at 11am at Town and Country Christian Church in Topeka. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be sent to Town and Country Christian Church Jamaica VBS.
