Frances Meyer, 89, of Tecumseh, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at a Topeka hospital. She was born November 18, 1925 in Spearville, KS, the daughter of George A. and Ethel L. (Gunnels) Conn. She graduated from Yates Center High School and resided in the Topeka and Tecumseh communities since 1943.
Frances was employed by Shawnee Heights High School from 1962 until 1977. She was also employed part-time at Sears for 8 years before moving into a full time position in 1977 and retired in 1987. Frances went to work for Research and Data in 1987 and then Research Information before retiring in 2001. She later worked part-time for Manning Music. She was a member of Tecumseh United Methodist Church, the U.S.D. 450 Retired Secretaries, Sears Retirees, the Golden Age Club, the 400 Dinner Group and the Cub Scouts as a pack leader.
Frances married John R. Meyer on October 2, 1946 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on February 1, 1962. She was also preceded in death by four brother-in-laws, Otis Meyer, Ralph Goebel, Merlin Carpenter and Ivan Meyer. Survivors include two sons, Ron (Rita) Meyer of Wakarusa, Kirk (Deana) Meyer of Parkville, MO, four grandchildren, LeAnn Meyer, Ryan (Erica) Koontz, Tyler Koontz and Frank Wood, three great-grandchildren, Brynlee Koontz, Ryan Anderson, Reece Anderson and two sisters, Vera Goebel and Betty Carpenter.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Frances will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2014 at the funeral home.
