Francis "Frank" Ciak, 83, Topeka, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center.
Frank was born October 22, 1932, in Hartford, CT, the son of Frank and Madeline (Cadden) Ciak. He graduated from Hartford High School in 1950.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1975, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars.
He worked for the Alaska Laborers Union from 1975 to 1985.
He was a former parishioner of St. Matthews Catholic Church and a current member of Christ the King Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Air Force Sergeants Association, and Capital City Gun Club.
"Friendly Frank" Ciak had a passion for the simple things. He cherished time spent with his family enjoying the outdoors – fishing, shooting, hunting and simply "watching the world go by." He made sure to teach each and every family member the "Ciak Rules" of Blackjack. He was always happy to share a story from his time spent on base in Hawaii, working on the pipeline in Alaska or courting the prettiest girl in Oklahoma. He was a true Patriot who loved watching family fireworks every 4th of July at Lake Sherwood. Watching his grandson's putting on the fireworks display brought him even greater joy. Above all else, he loved his family dearly. He spent his life supporting his family through hard work, cheers from the stands, and a little friendly teasing now and then.
Francis married Dorothy Brown on May 14, 1955, in Midwest City, OK. His wife of 60 years survives. Other survivors include son, Matthew Ciak, Lawrence, KS; daughters, Dorothy (Chris) Emory, Teresa (Kerry) O'Neal, all of Topeka; 6 grandchildren, Josh (Heather) Emory, Brian Emory, Andrew Emory, Alexandra (Kyle) Trobough, Aaron O'Neal, Jack O'Neal; 4 great-grandchildren, Addison Emory, Tyler Emory, Gabe Emory, Sarah Emory; and brothers, Robert Ciak, Southington, CT, Jack Ciak, Newington, CT, Ronald Ciak, Southington, CT and Thomas Ciak, Maryville, MO.
