Frank Kukovich, 88, of Carbondale, KS formerly of Topeka, died December 12, 2013. He was born Sept. 5, 1925 at Weir, KS, the youngest of 9 children, to Peter and Mary (Priestland) Kukovich.
He was raised in Weir and graduated from Weir Senior High School in 1943. Frank worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad for 2 years before entering the US Army. He served from 1945 to 1947 and was assigned to the 753rd Antiaircraft Artillery Gun Battalion at Yokohama, Japan.
He married Laura C. Horton on Sept. 1, 1967. She preceded him in death on May 7, 2003. Frank was an automotive painter for various companies before retiring from Ed Bozarth Chevrolet. He liked to fish, was an avid league bowler and enjoyed traveling the United States to see his family.
He is survived by his sons: Dan Kukovich, of Topeka, and David Kukovich (Silvia) of Carbondale; 2 step-daughters: Cheryl Brice (Tom) of Yakama, WA and Leta Peterson of San Carlos, CA; a grandson, Dylan; step-grandchildren: Natalie, Joshua, Laura, John, and Don; and his only surviving sibling, his oldest sister (102 years) Mary of Alton, IL.
Per his wishes, Frank was cremated. Private family services will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc. 3625 SW 29th St. Suite 102, Topeka, KS 66614
