Fred L. Harmon, Sr., 83, Topeka, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013 at a local hospital.
Fred was born July 15, 1930 in Millinocket, ME, the son of Austin Eugene and Marcia (Worcester) Harmon, Sr. He graduated from Washington Academy in East Machias, ME in 1947.
He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1948. He retired after 22 years of service with the rank of Technical Sergeant. He later worked for the U.S. Postal Service at the Western Area Supply Center.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge A.F. &A.M., Lodge #1 in East Machias, ME.
Fred married Dorothy Bauer on September 15, 1951 in Huntsville, AR. She survives. Other survivors include their children, Debbie (Dale Mykyte ) Culp, Houston, TX, Sheila (Gary) Langford, Amarillo, TX, Janice Esau, Wakarusa, Fay (Tod) Peters, Topeka, Fred Harmon, Jr., Wakarusa; grandchildren, Sean (Carley), Blake, Dustin (Natalie), Gary Jr., Ben, Chas, Nolan, Austin, Silas, Ariana; and great-grandchildren, Ritchie and Rachel. He was preceded in death by a brother and sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 2, 2013 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Entombment will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery & Mausoleum. Fred will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Thursdayand visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
