Freda Lucille Gurss
Freda Lucille Gurss, 88, Topeka, passed away on February 14, 2011, at Midland Hospice House. She had been a resident of Drury Place.
She was born July 1, 1922 in Topeka, the daughter of Fred and Bertha (Klesath) Fergel.
Freda graduated from Highland Park High School and prior to marriage, worked at Morrel's.
She lived her life as a loving mother and homemaker while enjoying her many friends throughout the years.
Freda married Lyle William Gurss on January 29, 1947 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on April 9, 1986. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and David Mann, Topeka; granddaughter and her husband, Aubrey and Wade Cook, Kansas City, MO; granddogs, Peggy Sue and Muffy Mann. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Helen Harrison; and brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Gerald and Phyllis Gurss.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Freda will lie in state at the funeral home after 3:00 p.m. today.
Memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society Building Fund, 2625 NW Rochester Road, Topeka, Kansas 66617.
