Frederick Douglas Nettles, 64, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at the Colmery O'Neil Medical Center in Topeka.
He was born on August 12, 1943 in Mobile, Alabama, the son of Johnny and Mollie Dudley Nettles.
He was an Air Force veteran during the Vietnam Era. He was employed in the construction business.
Frederick married Carlene Paul. She and their two children, Pastor Frederick Douglas Nettles, Jr. of Illinois and Mollie Franklin of Topeka survive. They were divorced. He then married Ella Jane Corley in 1970. She preceded him in death in 2001.
Mr. Nettles moved to Topeka, where he resided the last four years. He was a minister and was associated with the Family of God Church. He married Linda Kay Avery in 2005. She survives. Other survivors include four step-daughters, Linda Crenshaw of Wichita, Tonia Rice and Thomaset Redick, both of Topeka and Tamara Redick of Jacksonville, Florida; four grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, one brother, Johnny Nettles, Jr. and one sister, Rita Blackwell, both of Illinois. He was preceded in death by one brother, Anthony Wayne Nettles and one sister, Gladys Steele.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Family of God Church, 1231 N.W. Eugene St. Frederick will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel.
