Fulva Marie Atherton Seufert, 88, of Topeka, passed away peacefully December 21, 2021.
Fulva was born in Topeka, Kansas, on July 8, 1933. She was the daughter of James S. Atherton and Lela Marie Krouse Atherton. She attended Highland Park schools, graduating from Highland Park High in 1951, and then entered Washburn University for a year and a half before marrying Carl A. Seufert, Jr. in 1953. They moved to Columbus, Mississippi, when Carl entered the Air Force. Fulva and Carl had two sons while Carl served his country. Scott James Seufert born September 13, 1954 in Columbus, and Steven Jeffrey Seufert born August 10, 1956, in Spokane, Washington. Carl and Fulva returned to Topeka to raise their family after spending five and a half years with the military. She earned both bachelor's and master's degrees in elementary education from Washburn University and taught at Whitson Elementary.
She was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority and continued to be active by serving as President of the Alumni. Her past and present organizations include Stormont-Vail Hospital Auxiliary, AAUW, Delta Gamma Sorority, Mulvane Women's Art Board, Symphony League Board, Daughters of the King, Lady Luck Investment Club, and Chapter GJ of PEO. She was a lifetime member of the Washburn University Alumni.
Fulva's husband Carl passed away in 2002, and in April 2005, she married Herman R. Simon. Fulva's son Steven passed away in 2000. Her son Scott lives in Jacksonville, Oregon, with his wife Donna.
Honoring her request, Fulva was cremated. A celebration of her life will be held in 2022. Dove Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Southwest Chapel in Topeka is assisting the family.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at St. David's Episcopal Church.
