Gail E. Nitcher, "Gene," 87, of Meriden, passed away Friday, September 17, 2021.
He was born September 15, 1934, in Greeley, Kansas the son of Edgar George and Doris Mae (Tice) Nitcher.
Gene owned Downtown Auto Service from 1968 until his retirement in 1996. He then worked as a courier for Pony Express, Air Priority and Via Bancorp.
Gene was married to Sylvia Weeks on February 21, 1954; they divorced in 1974. He then married Janet Shields on March 28, 1975 in Meriden. She survives, along with his children, Lani Rothwell (Timothy) of Lawrence, Lia Grist (Marty) of Topeka, Brian Nitcher (Rainey) of Topeka and Timothy Nitcher (Trish) of Topeka; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Michael and Patrick Nitcher; and his brother Keith Nitcher.
Gene enjoyed cards, his dogs, and his family.
Gene was cremated. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 25th at 10:30 AM at Meriden Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Jefferson County Humane Society, 15295 K4 Hwy, Valley Falls, KS 66088.
