Galen E. "Old Sarge" Floyd, 82, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018.
He was born August 15, 1935, in Lillis, Kansas, the son of Raymond and Florene (Isaacson) Floyd. He attended Beattie High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Galen was employed by the Topeka Police Department for 22 years, retiring in August 16, 1985.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Police, American Legion Post #400 and Philip Billard Post No 1650 of VFW.
Galen married Marilyn A. Knight on April 27, 1957 in Beattie, Kansas. She preceded him in death on October 9, 1981. He married Patricia "Jill" Strahan on January 7, 1983 in Miami, OK. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Tom (Diana) Floyd, and a daughter, Brenda Fellman, all of Topeka; four grandchildren, Brooke, Taylor, Jordan and Myles; a brother, Glen (Jean) Floyd, Beattie; and a sister, LoisAnn (Len) Jasko, Topeka.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Betty Brott, RaeMona Lampe and Marilyn Weaver.
Galen enjoyed farming, coyote and deer hunting, fishing, and attending grandchildren's sporting events. He was a fan of Kansas State Wildcats, K.C. Chiefs, and K.C. Royals.
Honoring Galen's request, cremation is planned. A memorial ceremony will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
