Gary L. Chittenden, 80, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2021.
He was born June 5, 1941, in Wichita, KS, the son of John L. and Elise (Kreitzer) Chittenden.
Gary was raised in Phillipsburg, KS where he attended the Methodist Church. He graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1959. He later attended Fort Hays State University until he was drafted into the Army in 1963.
Gary proudly served in the United States Army in the 66th Military Police Unit. He spent one year in Vietnam. After being honorably discharged he was employed by Beech Aircraft in Wichita, KS for six years.
He then relocated to Topeka, KS where he was employed by Roach Hardware.
Gary married Peggy Young in 1978 in Topeka, KS.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy of Topeka; his two children, Rob Waetzig of Kansas City, MO and Victoria (Jim Belshe) Richmond of Topeka; two grandchildren, Christopher Richmond and Nicole Richmond; two great grandchildren, Alexander Kersting and Ava Jo Kersting all of Topeka; his siblings, Robert Chittenden and Janet (Dave) McGaw both of Denver, CO; his loving niece and nephew Amanda (Todd) McGaw Hays and John David (J.D.) McGaw.
Honoring Gary's request cremation is planned. No services have been scheduled at this time.
