Gary Lee Bayer, 70, of Topeka, passed away November 10, 2015 at Midland Hospice House. Gary was born December 4, 1944, at Wyoming, Illinois to Edwin and Nettie Ault Bayer. He graduated from high school in Wyoming, Illinois.
Gary married Sandy Hassett on January 20, 1973 at Topeka, Kansas. He went to work for the Noller Ford dealership where he was employed for 40 years.
He enjoyed attending archery tournaments that his son Jeff participated in and was sponsored by a professional team. Gary was an outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, waterskiing and boating. During the 70's he was known by "Cherry" Gary Bayer in the drag racing world. He was an official member of the Noller Drag Race Team. He was a transmission mechanic for the "Bounty Hunter" tractor pull team. He enjoyed family time especially watching his granddaughter and niece ride horses at the barn. He was a huge Ford enthusiast always cheering the NASCAR Ford drivers!
Gary was a member of the NRA and Quail and Ducks Unlimited.
Gary is survived by his wife Sandy; his daughter, Jacquie Bayer; granddaughter, Makenzie Wempe; Brother, Bud Bayer; Sister, Millie Stubbs; 2 brothers-in-law, Joe and Jim Boucher; nieces, nephews and one great-niece.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jeff Bayer and his parents, one brother and two sisters.
A celebration of Gary's life will be held at the American Legion Post 1, 3800 SE Michigan, Topeka, KS on November 16, 2015 from 6:30-9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Cir. Topeka, KS 66606
